MATTY Dolan won a Wembley play-off final while at Yeovil Town – today he returns to the Somerset club dreaming of repeating the feat with Newport County AFC.

Midfielder Dolan helped the Glovers into the Championship in 2013, coming on as a second-half substitute at Wembley as Brentford were beaten 2-1 to secure League One promotion.

That came while the 25-year-old was on loan with the Huish Park outfit, who he then joined on a permanent basis in July 2015 and left for Newport two years later.

The pessimists among the County faithful may feel their side’s chances of making the League Two play-offs are over – Michael Flynn’s men are currently eight points off the pace in 14th.

But Dolan strongly believes he and his teammates still have everything to play for between now and the end of the campaign.

“If anyone thinks this season is going to fizzle out then they’re not right for this squad,” he said. “We’re hungry to get in the play-offs.

“We want another trip to Wembley and to end the season as high as we can with good performances.

“People are out of contract, you’re fighting for your lives and your job is on the line, so you can’t just rest on your laurels.

“We need to finish strongly and make sure we pick up a lot of wins from now until the end of the season.”

He added: “We’ve got to push on now and make sure next season is a better season than this season.

“You look at Wimbledon when they got to the play-offs, they came from 12 points behind to catch that last play-off position and then won the final – and we’re not a million miles off it.

“We’ve probably given ourselves a tougher run than we would have liked but if you put three or four wins together then you are right up there again.

“We’re relying on others maybe a little bit more than we should but by no means have we written it off.”

Speaking about his time at Huish Park, where the Exiles are this afternoon’s visitors (kick-off 3pm), he continued: “I know them really well. The manager has done well with his budget, and he’s a good manager, like ours.

“They’re a good team and will beat anyone on their day, so we’ve got to go down there, be professional and make sure we get the three points.

“I’ve got brilliant memories from my time there. I played quite a lot of games for them and I had a really good time.

“It’s a new adventure now but I’ve got fond memories of Yeovil. The play-off final win and getting promoted to the Championship when I was on loan there was the highlight.

“It was a really good squad and I made some good mates.”

County boss Flynn has skipper Joss Labadie back from suspension as the away team look to mark the manager’s first anniversary at the helm with a win.
