FORMER Coventry City striker Frank Nouble is aiming to halt the Sky Blues’ charge towards the play-offs and keep Newport County AFC in the hunt for a top-seven finish when the sides meet at Rodney Parade tomorrow.

Nouble scored seven goals for Coventry in League One during the 2014-15 season but was not offered a new contract at the Ricoh Arena.

And he will not be short of motivation for the Good Friday showdown with Mark Robins’ side at Rodney Parade (kick-off 3pm).

“We’ve got Coventry coming to us and hopefully we can ruin their season, because that’s what they’ll be trying to do to us,” said the 26-year-old, who helped County to a 1-0 win at the Ricoh in August.

“We won up there when Reece Cole scored [and I want to beat them again].

“There’s so many teams that I’m going to feel that way about because I’ve played at so many different places but Coventry are definitely a team I want to do well against.

“But it’s not about me and as long as we win my overall feeling will be of joy.”

South Wales Argus:

Coventry are currently sixth in the table on 64 points but defeat tomorrow could see them drop to eighth.

The Exiles are now 10 points below seventh-placed Mansfield Town and nothing but a win will do for Michael Flynn’s men if they are to keep their season alive.

Speaking before last week’s 2-1 home defeat to Crewe Alexandra, Nouble said: “We’re not as close as we want to be to the play-offs at the moment, which is frustrating for everyone.

“I think one too many draws has killed us a bit but we’ve just got to keep going until the end – you never know what can happen.

“This league is crazy – you can win two games and all of a sudden you’re fighting for something again and that’s the position we want to put ourselves in.

“I think everyone outside has probably written us off and if I was them I’d probably do the same considering the points gap but there’s still 20-odd points to play for.

“Our home form has been good this season, nobody wants to come here and play us and we basically need to win all of the home games.”

Nouble has scored eight goals in 44 appearances for County since his arrival last summer.

“I think everyone has had a good season overall, including myself, but at the same time we feel like we can push to that next step,” he reflected.

“We’ve got a few games left to go and as long as we give everything and do well I’m sure it will be seen as a good season.”
