NEWPORT County AFC’s last home game of the season produced another three points and a third victory over Cambridge United this term.

Mickey Demetriou and Frank Nouble got the all-important goals for the Exiles to send them up to 11th in League Two.

Here are a few things we learned from the Rodney Parade encounter…

1. Being Frank

It may have looked like he wasn’t going to get there but Frank Nouble did get his 10th goal of the season, something he hadn’t done at any of his previous clubs – and there are a lot of them.

And what a way to move into double digits, with Nouble smashing Aaron Collins’ cross into the far corner courtesy of a beautifully timed side-foot volley.

The big question now is, will Frank be staying at Rodney Parade after his contract expires this summer? Watch this space.

2. County finding form at the wrong time

Some say that finishing a season strongly can mean the next campaign will begin in the same vein – let’s hope it’s the case for the Exiles.

Yesterday’s win made it three lots of three points in the last four games, with all of those successes coming on home soil.

Like, boss Michael Flynn said after the match, it’s frustrating that his side has rekindled the form that could have seen them in the play-offs but for the post-FA Cup run slump.

3. Still a record to play for

Three more points from the last two games of the season will see County set a new club record for a single campaign following their return to the Football League five years ago.

And with relegated Chesterfield the opposition on Tuesday you’d like to think the record can be broken before next Saturday’s finale at Carlisle.

4. Awards fully merited

The end of season awards were handed out after the Cambridge game and no-one could have many arguments with the winners.

Player of the season Dan Butler and players’ player/young player Ben White have both had excellent seasons in amber and black.

If Michael Flynn can find a few more loan players like White in the summer then the Exiles will be hunting those play-offs.

5. Demetriou does it again

You couldn’t keep Mickey D out of the action yesterday with a goal and a few bruises for his efforts.

One yellow card from two careless challenges on the defender was a bit lenient on behalf of referee Graham Salisbury.

But Demetriou came out of it all as one of his side’s best players on the day and he enjoyed scoring his seventh of the season.
