TOMORROW is D-Day for at least four Newport County AFC players who are out of contract this summer.

Manager Michael Flynn will sit down with Ben Tozer, Marlon Jackson, Paul Hayes and Calaum Jahraldo-Martin to reveal his decision on their future.

Striker Frank Nouble revealed last week that he has discussed a new deal with the club and said: “We’re talking with the club and I’m pretty sure something will be sorted out very soon.”

Injured captain Joss Labadie is also a free agent at the end of the season and he too has been offered a new deal. Negotiations are ongoing but may take longer than those with Nouble.

Dan Butler and Scot Bennett agreed new one-year and two-year contracts respectively late last month to stay at Rodney Parade.

“There’s only a few now [out of contract],” said Flynn.

“We’ve done most of them. I’ll speak to them on Tuesday.

“They’ll be coming in and I’ll talk to them on Tuesday.”

The Exiles boss will then focus all his attention on recruiting new players as soon as possible.

“I’m very keen [to get things done quickly],” he added. “I’m trying already but it’s not easy. It’s tough but I’m very keen.”

Flynn saw his side conclude the 2017-2018 season with a 1-1 draw at Carlisle United on Saturday thanks to Padraig Amond’s equaliser.

Mark O’Brien was forced off with a reoccurrence of a foot injury in the second half at Brunton Park.

“He’s struggling and it’s a good job now that we’ve got six or seven weeks off,” said the manager.

“He needs to rest it up and he’ll probably go and see a specialist on Tuesday to see what needs to be done and make sure he’s back for pre-season.

“Hopefully he’ll be fit and ready to go by June 28.

“I don’t know exactly what the problem is. It’s right at the end of the toe between the joint and it needs sorting. Hopefully it’ll settle down.

“It’s been tough for him but he’s a god pro and he’s soldiered through.

“I think it showed how much they wanted to play.

“Ben White wanted to play as well but he was struggling after Tuesday with his hamstring and I’ll never risk him because he’s not our player, unfortunately.”

South Wales Argus:

Fellow loan player Tyler Reid (above) did play on Saturday but Flynn expects the young defender to return to Swansea City next season.

“I thought he did well,” he said. ““Fair play to him, he’s worked on certain stuff and it’s nice for him that he lasted 90 minutes and didn’t seem like he was flagging as much.

“I think he’s got another year or two left with Swansea.

“We’ve just got to readdress things and hopefully get some of our targets in.”

Flynn also gave academy graduate Momodou Touray his first-team debut as a late substitute.

“He’s been with us a while now and it was the right time,” he added. “I probably would have brought two more – Jay Foulston and Lewis Collins – but they’re away with Wales [under-19s].

“I’m all for promoting youth; they’ve just got to be good enough.”
