NEWPORT County AFC have completed their second signing of the summer with the capture of striker Jamille Matt on a two-year deal.

The 6ft 1ins front man was released by League One Blackpool last month having spent the majority of the 2017-2018 season on loan at Grimsby Town.

Matt scored four goals in 36 appearances for the Mariners and one of those came in January’s 2-1 defeat to County at Blundell Park.

The 28-year-old Jamaican-born striker was later sent off for an elbow on Mickey Demetriou.

Back in 2012 he hit a hat-trick to earn Kidderminster Harriers a 3-2 win over the Exiles in the Conference.

Matt has also played for Fleetwood Town and had loan spells at Stevenage and Plymouth Argyle.

On completing the deal, he said: “Newport County AFC have always been a team that stood out to me and it was great to know they were interested in me. “The manager made it clear how much he wanted me at the club and that’s always a nice feeling.

"Having played against County a number of times, it’s always stood out as the type of club I’d like to play at,” he added.

“I’ve seen how much the club and team have improved under the manager and I’m looking forward to helping push the team onwards and upwards."

Manager Michael Flynn said: “Jamille will be vital for us. He’s come from a higher league and is always a handful to play against.

“I’m looking forward to working with him as he’s shown a desire to play for this Football Club from the moment we spoke.”
