NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn expects Tom Owen-Evans to succeed in Scotland and he’s revealed that the club will benefit from a sell-on clause if the youngster proves a hit at Falkirk.

Owen-Evans joined the Scottish Championship club for an undisclosed fee last week, signing a one-year deal with The Bairns.

The 21-year-old midfielder made more than 50 appearances for the County first team after graduating from the academy.

He also enjoyed successful loan spells at Gloucester City and Truro City but Flynn believes Owen-Evans has not shown what he is truly capable of as a senior professional.

“It’s an exciting move for him,” said the Exiles boss. “I’ve spoken to Tom and he’s someone I’ve got a lot of time for.

“Last season I don’t think he kicked on as much as he should have.

“It was a stop-start season for him. He came back for pre-season and I thought he was really going to kick-on but he had an illness so he was behind everyone else.

“Then he was slow getting going and the team started well. He always trained hard and did the right things but it was frustrating for him.

“Then when he got in around Christmas time he got injured and he was injured for another four or five weeks after that, which nobody really knew about because he just thought it was just a dead leg.

“It was frustrating for him so I think he needed a fresh challenge and it’s good that we’ve got an undisclosed fee and we’ve managed to protect ourselves with a sell-on clause.”

Falkirk manager Paul Hartley, a former midfielder for Scotland, Hearts and Celtic, told the club's official website: “I am really pleased to be able to secure a deal with Newport County AFC for the transfer of Tom.

“Tom is a young, energetic midfielder who will give us great creativity in attacking areas."
