TYREEQ Bakinson has taken League Two by storm so far this season and he’s confident that he and Newport County AFC can continue to go from strength to strength.

The 19-year-old, who is on loan from Championship club Bristol City, has been earning rave reviews for his displays in the heart of the County midfield alongside Matty Dolan.

And Bakinson is relishing the chance to show what he can do in the rough-and-tumble fourth tier of English football.

“When you come on loan all you want to do is play and get as much experience as you can and that’s what I’m doing here so hopefully it continues,” he said ahead of today’s trip to Oldham Athletic.

“I’m definitely enjoying it. It’s good to get out there and show everyone what I can do.

“I think there’s a massive difference between under-23s and first-team football. There’s a lot more on the line. It’s real-life football.

“It’s a big change and it’s not always easy but I’m here to learn all different styles of football and to deal with it and I feel like I’ve dealt with it well.”

One area of his game that manager Michael Flynn wants Bakinson to improve on is his shooting.

“We’ve all got things we need to work on and I feel like shooting is one of those for me,” he added. “I’ll be working on that on the training pitch.

“But I appreciate the support from the fans and hopefully I can keep impressing them.”

Dolan has been so impressed with his teammate that he likened Bakinson to Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

But the youngster admits he has some catching up to do if he’s to match the feats of the French international.

“Pogba is obviously one of the players I look up to in the Premier League and he’s just won the World Cup as well,” said Bakinson.

“He’s definitely a really big inspiration for me and I appreciate people saying that [I’m like him] but I’ve obviously got a lot of work to do before I get to that level.

“As a young player everyone wants to play in the Premier League. It’s the best league in the world and that’s my ambition.

“Bobby Reid is flying now [after leaving Bristol City for Cardiff City]. He’s a good friend and I’ve kept in touch with him so hopefully I can do what he’s done.”

Before he can think about the Premier League, Bakinson wants to establish himself in the Championship back in Bristol and he’s hoping to catch the eye of Robins boss Lee Johnson during his time in Newport.

“I think he watches all of us on loan and hopefully he’s been impressed with my performances,” said the teenager, who refused to rule out a return to his parent club in January.

“I feel like that’s a decision I’ll probably make closer to the time,” he added.

“I haven’t really thought about it too much but obviously I’d love to play in the Championship with Bristol City.”

But for now he’s loving life with the Exiles, alongside fellow Bristol City loanees Antoine Semenyo and Cameron Pring, who are all following in the footsteps of Shawn McCoulsky.

“I spoke to Shawn before making the move and he obviously gave me some good feedback and helped me make the decision,” he said.

“I think even without the other guys from Bristol it’s a good squad so it’s not that difficult to settle in.

“But it does work well. We all travel together but we might have to start mixing and matching to save some petrol.

“Antoine doesn’t drive so it’s been me and now Cam as well. I’m definitely in charge of the music – Cam’s got awful taste!”

And Bakinson is confident that County, who start the day in second, can continue to hit the right notes.

“We’re just taking it game by game but if we keep on playing like we’ve been playing then the sky’s the limit, really,” he admitted. “Hopefully we can stay where we are.”
