BOSS Michael Flynn has demanded a response from his players after witnessing Newport County AFC’s 6-0 humiliation at the hands of Yeovil Town in front of the Rodney Parade faithful.

Former Exile Jordan Green scored twice against his old club, while Yoann Arquin, Diallang Jaiyesimi, Olufela Olomola and Carl Dickinson also netted to complete the rout.

County’s day was compounded by a straight red card for substitute Robbie Willmott with just a few minutes left.

“We got beaten by a very good and efficient Yeovil team,” said Flynn. “We got hammered actually.

“We did our preparation and knew they were going to hit us on the counter-attack with pace, and we didn’t do what we worked on.

“It’s a bit frustrating because we knew what to expect and we played into their hands.

“I can’t put my finger on why we didn’t do what we talked about.

“It’s a bad result and I’m going to need a response next week.

“We’ve had a good start and I think that’s just a big reminder of how brutal it can be and not to get carried away, not that we were.

“Sometimes you learn more about your players in circumstances like that than you do in winning.

“We’ll be back working hard this week and trying to put it right for next weekend.”

He continued: “It was just a very, very sloppy performance.

“You look at the free-kick which went in, that doesn’t usually happen, and then Robbie got red-carded.

“Everything that could go wrong, went wrong.

“Yeovil were excellent. They defended well, had good players in the middle of the park who kept their discipline and shape, and they’ve got a lot of pace up front which can hurt you, and did hurt us.

“I don’t want to be one of these managers who never credits the opposition, we got beaten by a Yeovil team that were far better than us.

“I’m not going to complain about anything, it’s just one of those days.

“We lost 6-1 down at Plymouth when I first took over so I’ve been through it before.

“I’ve been through it in my career, lost a few bad ones, but this is a tough one to take because nobody saw it coming.

“You can’t go from defending the way we did at Port Vale and Oldham to that.”

Tranmere Rovers are next up for Flynn’s men in League Two, and when asked if there will be changes for the trip north, he said: “Everyone comes into my thoughts, even when we win.

“I’m not too bothered about changing a winning team, I do that, but we’ll have to assess things this week and get a game plan ready for Tranmere.”
