NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn is set to keep faith with the majority of the side that under-performed so badly in the 6-0 defeat to Yeovil Town.

County were on a run of four successive wins in League Two, which had taken them to second in the table, but they were humiliated by the Glovers at Rodney Parade with a number of star men guilty of individual errors.

They still remain third in the league, however, and Flynn says he will resist the urge to make drastic changes and give his players the chance to redeem themselves at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

“It would be easy to have a reaction and make wholesale changes but we won’t be doing that,” said the Exiles boss.

“If I feel that somebody can give us a better chance of getting a result up at Tranmere then I’ll change it and there’s certain players that come into my mind for the weekend.

“There might be one or two changes but the boys who’ve got us into third position so far have shown that they’re not bad players.

“We’ve played some very good football and one bad game doesn’t make you a bad player overnight. They’ve got to bounce back and prove that.”

Flynn and his coaching staff held a meeting with the players on Monday to discuss the Yeovil defeat and he’s confident that they can put right what went wrong against Darren Way’s team.

“We had a meeting on Monday,” he said. “It would have been easy to get out on the grass quickly but there were a couple of things I wanted to identify and put right.

“I had chats with individual players because it’s always good to hear what a player is thinking and what frame of mind they’re in.

“I’ve wanted to see how they are this week to see if anyone is feeling sorry for themselves or if anyone [who didn’t play] is over-excited or cocky because we’ve lost but there is none of that.

“We’ve got a good group and they’ve got a strong bond.

“We had a really tough session on Tuesday and they trained really well and we’ll have them ready for Saturday.”

Flynn insists that the whole squad is determined to give the supporters a performance to be proud of at Prenton Park.

“They love playing for this football club and they know they let the fans down,” he said. “All of us did but there’s not many times you can say we’ve done that.

“There’s been a lot more good times than bad since I’ve been here.

“I’m always straight and honest,” he added. “I was really disappointed for the supporters but they need to realise where we are at times.

“The players have done extremely well and I’m not pointing any fingers.

“We’re in it together. We win together and we lose together and they’ve been excellent so far.

“They were hurting as much as anybody and anyone who says they weren’t doesn’t know them.

“They were hurt and they were still hurting over the weekend.

“We’ve just got to put it behind us now and hopefully put it right on Saturday.”
