MIDFIELDER Matty Dolan insists Newport County AFC are determined to put in a “massive performance” at Tranmere Rovers tomorrow.

Dolan and his teammates are still hurting from last Saturday’s 6-0 drubbing at home to Yeovil Town and they want to bounce back as quickly as possible.

That shock defeat came on the back of four successive wins, which had lifted County to second in the League Two table.

The Exiles have won their last two league matches on the road at Port Vale and Oldham Athletic and they will look to repeat those perfect away performances this weekend.

“Obviously last weekend wasn’t ideal but we got together on Monday and had a good meeting to discuss it,” said Dolan.

“We’re treating it as a blip and we want to put it behind us as soon as possible.

“Everyone is hurting – it’s about personal and professional pride and we’ve got our heads down and trained hard all week to make sure we put it right at Tranmere.

“There were a lot of mistakes and it was really disappointing performance in front of a big crowd,” he added.

“The fans were brilliant, even when we were 3-0 down at half-time, and we’re just as disappointed as everyone else.

“We want to look ahead now and focus on Saturday.

“We’re still third in the league and we’re there for a reason.”

Dolan believes the wins at Vale Park and Boundary Park give Dolan can inspire the Exiles as they head to Prenton Park.

“We showed lots of character to win at Port Vale and Oldham and we have to do the same again at Tranmere,” he said.

“Tranmere are a massive club at this level but we’ll be looking to carry on our away form. We know we can do it and we believe in ourselves and we have to make sure we put in a massive performance.”
