EBBW Vale marched into the last eight of the WRU National Cup after a dominant victory over Bridgend at the Morganstone Brewery Field, writes Jay Bayfield.

Dorian Jones was the star as he kicked 16 points and set up Toby Fricker twice to secure a tie with Bargoed in the quarter-finals.

Jones kicked Ebbw Vale into an early lead with a curling effort that just snuck inside the post.

The hosts responded instantly and won a penalty of their own, which was expertly dispatched by fly-half Jacob Lloyd.

But the Ravens were only level for five minutes as referee Ben Breakspear awarded the Steelmen a penalty try.

Jones was given another chance to showcase his kicking ability minutes later and the Dragons star took it to extend Ebbw’s lead.

The number 10 continued to dictate the play and he set up winger Fricker with an outrageous cross-field pass that caught out the static Bridgend backline.

Fricker did well to catch the long pass while running at speed but the quality of Jones’ delivery meant Fricker was able to catch it and touch down.

Jones continued to torment the Ravens with an accurate conversion.

Already with their backs to the wall, the hosts’ day got even worse when Adam O’Driscoll was sent to the sin bin.

Dominic Franchi then broke free and almost set up Fricker for his second as Ebbw continued to dominate, but the winger wasn’t able to keep hold of the pass.

However, Fricker did manage to crash over for a second time after another Jones pass, this time a more subtle ball through a crowd of players.

Jones added the conversion to all but seal the result before the break.

Dorian Jones hit an early second-half drop goal before Jonny Phillips crashed over for the Ravens.

But a third Jones penalty killed any hopes of a remarkable comeback, despite a late Ollie Evans touch down.
