Wales out but tickets selling fast for Rugby League World cup swansong
6:01pm Monday 4th November 2013 in Wales rugby
DESPITE Wales' elimination from the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, tickets are selling fast for their final group match against the Cook Islands in Neath on Sunday (kick-off 2pm).
Wales became the first side to be eliminated from the competition as the United States secured a deserved 24-16 win at the Racecourse at the weekend.
Christiaan Roets scored the opening try but the Tomahawks responded through Clint Newton and Matthew Petersen.
Man-of-the-match Joseph Paulo, Newton and Tuisegasega Samoa added further tries for the United States.
Wales rallied with late consolation tries from Roets and Anthony Walker but the result had long been decided.
The game was a must-win for Iestyn Harris's side after defeat by Italy in their opening game at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium and they now have only pride to play for against the Cook Islands.
But there are now currently just terrace tickets on sale from the official Rugby League World Cup 2013 site for the game, with organisers expecting a limited amount of seated tickets in the family stand to become available by Wednesday.
Currently just the covered terrace is on sale but should this now sell-out then the terrace at the clubhouse end will open.
Neath RFC chief executive Mike Harrison is delighted that tickets are selling so well for the biggest week of the year at The Gnoll.
“It will be fantastic to see a packed house at The Gnoll for rugby again,” he said. “The World Cup is bringing a lot of trade and support to Neath and we’re pleased it’s putting our town on the map.
“It’s a big week for us here in Neath. We’ve our always popular fireworks display at The Gnoll on Tuesday with tickets for that one selling fast and to top that off next Sunday with potentially the biggest rugby crowd of the year at The Gnoll is amazing.
“I encourage fans who haven’t yet bought tickets for the game to snap them up right now. It’s not every day that we have a World Cup match in our town!”
