WALES Women will prepare for the World Cup by taking on their American counterparts at Cross Keys next Saturday (kick-off 1.30pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

Rhys Edwards' squad have a tricky pool for August's tournament in France containing the hosts, Australia and South Africa.

Wales had a tough Six Nations but ended on a positive note by bagging their first win of the campaign against the Scots, running in four tries at the Talbot Athletic Ground.

And they will look to build on that performance when they lock horns with the USA, who have World Cup group encounters with Ireland, Kazakhstan and New Zealand, at Pandy Park.

Edwards had some tough selections to make when naming his 26-strong squad and feels they have the talent to make an impact in France.

"Ultimately we have taken the last two years into account when picking the squad - from training, off the pitch and on the pitch - and it is a side I believe has plenty of potential to do well in France," he said.

Entry for the friendly clash is £5.
