OSPREYS star Dan Biggar admits every member of the squad is playing for their place when Wales take on France in Paris tomorrow night.

With Alex Cuthbert and Richard Hibbard dropping out of the starting XV for the Stade de France, along with Jake Ball and Aaron Jarvis, head coach Warren Gatland has sent a message to his players that nobody’s place is safe.

And Biggar says that means everyone will be on top of their game as Wales attempt to keep their Six Nations title hopes alive.

“The shake-up is great for us,” said the 25-year-old. “The boys coming in have been chomping at the bit to play.

“We’ve had a fairly settled team for a while now so the boys coming in are excited to play and the boys dropping out have got a big impact to make against a pretty big French bench as well so I think the dynamic is pretty good.

“It does send a bit of a ripple through the squad when one or two are changed. That’s the mindset every game but it means you have to be on the money even more.

“Those boys have made a big impact off the bench and it’s up to those who have been brought in to demand high standards and go on and keep the shirt.”

Biggar expects the hosts to go all out for the victory but he knows that it is a must-win game for both sides if they are to have any hope of overhauling unbeaten England and Ireland, who meet in Dublin on Sunday.

And the outside-half is hoping for a repeat of the 16-6 win in 2013 as Wales look for a fourth successive victory over the French for the first time since 1957.

“I think France have picked a team to play a bit more rugby,” he said. “They’ll look to counter-attack a bit more and they are at home so they’ve got to look to win.

“But it’s a must-win for both teams. Anyone who loses is probably out of the competition and it should make for a good game.

“We can’t afford to lose. In 2013 it was the second game and we’d had a bad run of results and we managed to turn it around then.

“We’ve got a great record out in Paris and hopefully we can get another win.”
