A GLASGOW food supplier has moved into a #1.5m purpose-built building in the M8 Food Park in a major expansion.

Few members of the public will have heard of P&C Morris, but the family firm supplies household names such as the Gleneagles, Turnberry and Balmoral hotels, while diners at Glasgow's Rogano, Buttery, and One Devonshire Gardens also enjoy food sourced by P&C Morris.

''We supply luxury hotels, and upmarket restaurants with a wide range of food,'' explained Robert Morris, whose father Paul founded the business in 1975.

The company's turnover this year is #2.2m - a 25% increase on the previous year - and the number of employees has doubled in the last two months to 35. P&C Morris sources the food supplies for its customers not only throughout the UK, but also in Continental Europe.

''We have a depot in Paris for distribution purposes, and no matter where our source of supply is we audit it thoroughly and inspect the premises,'' Robert Morris said.

''We can follow the supply chain of all our products from start to finish.''

The company supplies a wide range of food including poultry, fruit and vegetables and dairy products.

''We are not heavily in-volved in the supply of meat,'' explained Mr Morris, ''but the beef that we do supply all comes from the Orkney Islands.''

The recent increase in tourism has helped the company's performance as the visitors need to eat, and P&C Morris also supplies hotels such as the Hilton and Moat House in Glasgow, and the Sheraton in Edinburgh.

The company is now preparing food for its customers in state-of-the-art kitchens at its premises, the financial package for which was put together with the assistance of its accountant, KPMG.

''Many kitchens are now reducing the number of people in them and regulations are becoming much tighter,'' explained Mr Morris, ''And this is an area where we see the company expanding by supplying further prepared food products for our customers.''

P&C Morris not only sources food abroad, it also supplies hotels on the Continent, in Hong Kong and Singapore, where the world famous Raffles Hotel often calls on the Glasgow company's expertise.
