FORMER Newport Gwent Dragons number eight Netani Talei has been selected in Fiji’s World Cup squad but dangerous wing Napolioni Nalaga has lost his fitness battle.

Coach John McKee is able to call on plenty of experience in his 31-strong squad – former Gloucester back row forward Akapusi is skipper and will lead Leicester wing Vereniki Goneva, Bath scrum-half Niko Matawalu, Glasgow lock Leone Nakarawa, Ospreys centre Josh Matavesi, Crusaders powerhouse back Nemani Nadolo and Talei, who is now with Harlequins.

However, Lyon ace Nalaga misses out after picking up an undisclosed injury during the Pacific Nations Cup.

“I am very pleased to announce a very strong and experienced team to represent Fiji at RWC2015,” said McKee.

“After the successful Pacific Nations Cup campaign and current training camp here in Fiji the squad is working well towards the challenges ahead in the UK at RWC2015.

“Pool A is a very challenging pool and I have every confidence that this team will rise to the challenge and bring their best game to every match at the World Cup.

“Challenges such as those ahead of us bring out the best in top competitors and top teams, “McKee added.

“With this talented group of rugby players, fiercely proud of representing their country, I believe we have a team of players who will bring their best game to the biggest contest in international rugby.”

Fiji take on hosts England in the tournament opener at Twickenham on Friday, September 19 before Millennium Stadium encounters with Australia and Wales and a Milton Keynes group finale against Uruguay.
