WALES Under-20s boss Jason Strange wants his young charges to keep turning on the style when they host Grand Slam-chasing Ireland on Saturday (kick-off 6.30pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

Head coach Strange has made one change to the XV that romped to a 65-34 win in Scotland a fortnight ago with blindside Shane Lewis-Hughes, who started every game in last year’s Six Nations clean sweep, making a first appearance of the campaign.

Newport Gwent Dragons front row forwards Owen Hughes and Chris Coleman, hooker and tighthead respectively, will be on the bench in Colwyn Bay.

Wales scored eight tries against the Scots last round and, while their defence clearly needs to sharpen up, Strange was thrilled with their dashing attack.

“The most pleasing aspect of that game in Scotland was our style of play, which is our biggest focus as a team,” said the former fly-half.

“We’re starting to realise the way we want to play and the qualities we have as a side, so that’s something else I want to come to the fore at Parc Eirias. As well as we played in Scotland, we also have a few things to correct, which we’ll be looking to do this weekend.

“Our rate of progress from game one to game three has been excellent, though, which is mainly down to the players’ desire to get better.”

Ireland head into the game on the back of narrow wins against the Scots (20-19), Italians (27-26) and French (27-22).

Strange is relishing the chance to see his charges up against formidable opposition ahead of a big summer in Georgia.

He said: “Playing against a quality side like Ireland is also another opportunity for us to get better as we build towards the U20 World Rugby Championship.”
