PENALLTA RFC welcomed Glamorgan Wanderers to Trinity Fields expecting an extremely hard-fought contest and the visitors soon showed their strength scoring two tries to go into a 10 nil lead.

Penallta started to find their feet towards the end of the first half with fullback Gary Wilkes converting his own try to go into half time trailing 7 – 10.

The second half was a complete turnaround as the young backline started to exploit their opposition.

Lewis Barnett was the first to cross the try line - after charging down a wayward clearance he won the race to touch down. Glamorgan hit back with a well worked try of their own to retake the lead 14 – 15 before speedy winger Gareth Edwards raced down the touch line to cross in the corner.

There followed sustained pressure from the home side before replacement scrum half Josh Evans added a fourth score to secure a bonus point. Gary Wilkes, who has had a magnificent start to the season claimed Penallta’s fifth try to finish off a superb move – following a turnover on the Penallta line, flanker Mike Adams broke out from his own 22, linking with Wilkes who then offloaded to Edwards. “Eddie” then passed back to Wilkes to complete the length of the field try.

Wilkes added 3 conversions and a penalty to make the final scoreline 34 – 15.
