HERE’S your weekly round-up of some of the events taking place across the area this weekend...

1. Arts by the Sea gets underway this weekend with more than 100 performances taking place in locations across Bournemouth from Saturday, September 29 to Saturday, October 6.

Bournemouth Town Hall will become the focal on Saturday at 8pm for a bespoke, 3D projection mapping show by The Colour Project titled Silicon Shores which features animated fish, octopus and other sea creatures (designed by students at Glenmoor and Winton Academy). 2. Beer and cider lovers rejoice! The eighth annual Great Bransgore Beer Festival starts at 4pm on Friday at the popular Three Tuns pub featuring a vast selection of craft beers, real ales and ciders to suit all tastes over the space of three days. All the money raised by this event goes to support many local causes and charities through the Bransgore Rotary Club. The event starts from 4pm on September 28 until late evening on Sunday, September 30.

3. Lansdowne’s monthly Metropole Market will host HMS Sultan’s Super Sentinel Steam Waggon, an 86-year-old Royal Navy steam engine for its Steampunk inspired fanfare this Sunday from 11 am to 5pm. The Metropole Market will once again close Holdenhurst Road to traffic.

4. The Parry 100 Festival commemorating the famous Bournemouth-born composer Sir Hubert Parry, who wrote the popular anthem Jerusalem, launches this Saturday at St Peter’s Church, Bournemouth with an orchestral concert featuring star violinist Jennifer Pike. For more details, see Parry100.co.uk.

5. Meet a fungi expert at Knoll Beach Studland who will amaze you with fungi facts and help you identify common species on Saturday at 10am until 3pm. Booking is not essential and it is a free event. For more details, call 01929 450500.

6. Roundabout is an intimate pop-up theatre-in-a-tent experience which returns for this year’s Arts by the Sea festival in a new location outside Pavilion Dance in Lower Gardens, where it hosts five plays as well as a Coastal Comedy event and a comedy club for kids from September 28 -30.

7. Bournemouth Orchid Society’s autumn show features potting demonstrations, plant clinic and exhibitors at the Allendale Community Centre in Wimborne on Saturday. For more details visit, website bournemouthorchidsociety.org.uk

8. The Bournemouth and Poole Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride is an annual event to raise money and awareness for men’s health. Around 500 vintage motorbikes will gather at Bournemouth Pier at 10.30am on Sunday before making its way to Bournemouth School for a social event. Expect retro-themed and custom motorbikes and lots of cravats, moustaches and tweeds!
