CAERPHILLY County Borough Council have said that works to the Sirhowy Riverbridge are nearly complete.

The re-construction work is estimated to be completed by the end of October.

During the re-construction and refurbishment of the bridge, it became noticeable that the existing road surface from Libanus traffic lights across to and including the roundabout on the Sirhowy Enterprise Way bypass was worn and the council have said they will be working with Caerphilly’s framework contractor to remove and resurface the pavements on both the Sirhowy Bridge and adjacent highway.

A spokesman for the council said: "This course of action is not only necessary but will also return the Southern Valley Crossing to its original condition. In undertaking these resurfacing works in conjunction with the bridge re-construction it will extend the closures by a few days, however, it will avoid further closures and disruption in the near future to undertake these essential works.

"We will provide a further update this month to confirm the planned dates of the resurfacing and completion of works. We would again like to thank the residents and businesses of Blackwood for their patience and cooperation."
