The cordon has now been lifted and officers from South Wales Police have been stood down.

The latest police statement reads: “A cordon which was in place for several hours following an incident in Cardiff city centre this afternoon, has now been lifted.

“At approximately 3.15pm South Wales Police received a report of an ongoing incident at a hotel on St Mary Street.

“Staff and residents, as well as occupants of neighbouring buildings, were evacuated as a precaution. No-one was injured. 

“The public are thanked for their cooperation and assistance. Officers have now been stood down from the scene following a thorough search of the area, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the source of the report to police.

“Anyone with any information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact 101, quoting occurrence 1800475427.”

POLICE have evacuated a large part of St Mary's Street in Cardiff after threats were made to people in a hotel.

Shoppers and workers have been asked to leave the area, and residents have also been told to leave their flats.

A large crowd is now gathering at the edge of the police cordon.

It has been reported the incident concerns just one premises.

Speaking on behalf of South Wales Police, a spokesman said: "At around 3.15pm today officers received information that threats had been made to people in a city centre hotel.

"Staff and a number of residents have now safely left the premises with no reports of any injuries.

"A police cordon is in place and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

"The incident is on-going."
