TORFAEN Council have opened a consultation on proposals to extend the age range of pupils at Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw.

The proposals for consultation which are now live, will extend the age range of pupils at the Trevethin school from the current 11-18 to 3-18 from September 2021.

In October 2018 the Welsh Government approved the council’s £6 million bid for capital investment, which subject to consultation will deliver new primary and nursery accommodation on the Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw site.

This investment will be fully funded by the Welsh Government to support its aim to create one million Welsh Speakers by 2050.

The proposals would see an on-site nursery established for 30 full time equivalent three and four year olds and would also see Welsh Medium primary school catchment areas amended to reflect the additional proposed provision at the school.

The consultation period will close on Monday, February 25.

Comments on the proposal can be made by writing to Mr Dermot McChrystal, Chief officer, education and lead director for children and young people, Torfaen County Borough Council, Civic Centre, Pontypool, Torfaen NP4 6YB, by emailing 21stcenturylearning@torfaen.gov.uk or by attending one of the consultation ‘drop-in’ events.

Consultation events have been arranged at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran on Monday, February 11; Ysgol Bryn Onnen on Tuesday, February 12; Ysgol Panteg on Wednesday, February 20; and Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw on Thursday, February 21.

All consultation events run from 4pm until 6pm.

Documents relating to the proposals can be found on Torfaen council's website.
