SEVERN Tunnel Ladies maintained their goal-scoring form with a 7-0 win over Aberdare Town at Rogiet on Sunday, writes Bob Cypher.

Tunnel started slowly on a hard, bobbly pitch but once they adjusted to the conditions, they wrapped up the points by half time.

Two goals in as many minutes by Mikaela Roberts set the tone before skipper Nat Rostron scored with a fine drive into the top right corner and Shauna Pentney’s twice-taken penalty gave Tunnel a four-goal cushion by the break. Pentney was quickly identified by Town’s manager as the midfield engine-room, linking play despite being surrounded by three or four opposition players.

With Mikaela Roberts and Bethan Gammon providing the width on the wings, Tunnel created plenty of chances and should perhaps have led by a greater margin.

But with Tunnel keeper Jenny Gattrell a distant spectator for most of the match, Roberts completed her hat-trick, Taran Fitzgerald fired in a fierce shot which Town’s keeper was unable to keep out and a first goal for Jo Williams completed the victory.

Taking possession 30 yards out, Williams delivered a deep cross which eluded defenders and keeper alike and crossed the line just before Roberts could apply the finishing touch.

Tunnel manager Sian Elizabeth Rees was happy the team kept the winning momentum going.

“It was a very messy game and we took time to gel, especially as the pitch made it difficult to keep the ball on the floor,” she said.

“Mik and Beth kept their defence busy and our back three were solid as always.

“Shauna Pentney was a constant threat and Nat Rostron's goal was a screamer.

“I am happy with the win and three points.

“We start training on the grass this Wednesday (April 3rd) and there is lots to work on for the cup final at the end of the month.

“We are waiting for news of dates for our final games.”
