THE world’s best marbles players rolled up for the annual championship at the weekend.

Throwers gathered in the sunshine to see who would be crowned the best in the game.

The object is to see who can knock 49 target marbles out of the ring the fastest.

Many players wore Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses as they battled it out for the world title outside the Greyhound Pub in Tinsley Green, Crawley.

The marbles championship has traditionally been played on Good Friday since 1932.

It is said it began in the1500s as a decider between two men from Surrey and Sussex who both wanted to wed a “Tinsley maiden”.
