RUNNERS have only until Monday to seal their place on the start-line at the ABP Newport Wales 10K.

With entries to the marathon already closed, time is running out for Newport natives to get involved in another huge day for the city. Around 6,000 runners are expected across both distances after the roaring success of last year’s inaugural event.

The flat 10K race gives runners of all abilities the opportunity to get involved in one of Wales’ biggest weekends of mass participation, without committing to the challenging 26.2 mile distance.

Run 4 Wales Chief Executive Matt Newman called the 10K race "perfect" for runners who want to experience the festival atmosphere of the Newport marathon.

“The flat route takes in a host of the city’s landmarks including the iconic Newport Transporter Bridge, and provides the perfect platform for runners to chase a personal best, or raise funds for charity," he said.

We were blown away by the support for the inaugural race from runners and supporters in the city, everyone connected with the race cannot wait to return for another unforgettable day in Welsh sport.”

The second leg of this year’s enhanced Healthspan Wales 10K Series will get underway from the Usk Way start line at 9.45am following the marathon start at 9am. General entry for the 10K are £25 or £23 for affiliated athletes. Entrants will receive a bespoke finishers’ t-shirt and medal to honour their achievement after they cross the line.

ABP Newport Wales 10K entries will close at midnight on April 29, so runners are being urged to head over to newportwalesmarathon.co.uk/register-10k/ to avoid disappointment.

There is also the opportunity to get the whole family involved in the ABP Newport Wales Family Mile, the ideal run for those looking to take the day a little more easily than the 10K and marathon runners.

The Family Mile is designed for runners of all ages and to give the next generation a taste of a large scale mass-participation event. Inventive fancy dress, lots of smiles and even more support from a buzzing crowd is expected. Sign-up at newportwalesmarathon.co.uk/register-family-mile/.
