WALES rugby great Adrian Hadley is preparing to pull on his boots once more but this time for charity.

Adrian will kick-off the start of an inaugural charity match between The Celtic Rail Barbarians and St Peters RFC in aid of Newport-based St David’s Hospice Care.

The crunch charity match, which could now become an annual fixture, will be staged on Sunday, May 12 at The Harlequins Playing Fields, Minster Road, Cardiff. Kick off 2pm. Tickets are £2.

Former Wales international, Barbarians and Cardiff winger Adrian, who is deputy chief executive of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “I may need to get in a bit of practice before I get on the pitch. It’s been a while. But seriously St David’s Hospice Care is extremely pleased that Celtic Rail Barbarians have agreed to raise such a wonderful sum on money for the charity.”

Stewart Ekstrom-Gabb, co-founder of Celtic Rail Barbarians RFC said: “We’re thrilled that Adrian Hadley has agreed to start the charity match with the kick off.

“The Celtic Rail Barbarians are a charity fundraising team set up by two friends four years ago with one aim in mind “to help those less fortunate than ourselves”.

“There were many deserving causes that were considered but in the end we settled on the St David’s Hospice Care as too many people’s lives are now affected by cancer either directly or indirectly and several of our players have experienced the superb work done at St David’s Hospice Care.

“A touring party of 28 are travelling to Japan for the Rugby World Cup WC 2019. While there we will be playing a local team, Tokyo Gaijin RFC and will be undertaking a sponsored hike at Mt Fuji.”

A second charity match, also in aid of St David’s Hospice Care, between The Celtic Rail Barbarians and Network Rail will be staged at The Principality Stadium, on Sunday, May 31, kick off 1.30 pm
