Brecon 1sts (98 all out) lost to Sudbrook 1sts (161 all out)

SUDBROOK returned to winning ways at relegation-threatened Brecon thanks to their bowlers and openers, writes Bob Cypher.

Their hosts won the toss and decided to bat second, a decision their skipper Sam Williams might have been regretting as Ross Lewis (27) and Matt Spencer (45) put on 78 for the first wicket.

Matt Jones (32 not out) and Matthew Kinchin (29) put Sudbrook on the front foot but a succession of single-figure scores dented any hopes of a 200+ score.

Iain Mitchell took Brecon’s bowling honours with 4-53 with two maidens in his 10 overs.

In reply, opening bowlers Mitchell Slape and Ryan Hudson removed Brecon’s first three batsmen, and despite Gethin Phillips (23), wicketkeeper Rhys Pritchard (11) and skipper Williams’ late flourish with 40, the home side’s batting crumbled.

Slape (3-22 with one maiden) and Dean Wallace (3-30 and two maidens) were the main men but Hudson (2-23) and skipper James Watkins (2-22 and one maiden) deserve a mention.
