CHEPSTOW Tennis Club's men's team completed their successful South Wales League campaign with a remarkable 3-3 draw with Radyr in Cardiff, writes Bob Cypher.

Chepstow lost the first three matches to trail 3-0 at the halfway stage.

But the second round of matches began more encouragingly with Ollie Bendall and Ben Durman winning their second match 6-2 6-2.

The comeback was on when Gavin Reid and Tim Lewin saved match points to secure a marathon 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 victory to make it 3-2 and, in the final match, Radyr's excellent top pairing faced Chepstow's youthful Luke Reid and Will Leney.

Despite being massive underdogs, the pair produced a magnificent performance to shock Radyr, winning 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 to tie the match.

As a result, Chepstow finished mid-table in Division 1, which injured captain Adrian Ford described as a magnificent achievement.

“The boys showed great character to turn the match around from 3-0 down and end the season on a positive note,” he added.
