Gwent Police have confirmed two crashes this morning on the A4042 as a result of ice on the roads.
Both roads have since reopened.
The first crash involving four cars happened going southbound on the A4042, past Sainsbury's at around 8.45am this morning.
Gwent Police said that the council had been informed and traffic services attended the scene to clear the road.
The Welsh Ambulance Service is yet to confirm any injuries.
A second collision happened on the A4042 northbound road out of Newport from Grove Park roundabout to the Croes-y-Mwyalch roundabout.
Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle arrived at the scene at around 9am.
The Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed that there were no serious injuries.
Newport Highways attended both scenes quickly after the crashes to apply further grit to the roads.
