Pictures show progress underway as Network Rail work to protect passengers against landslips on the currently closed Bexleyheath line.
Steep cutting back is taking place in the Barnehurst area, as staff work to remove 2,500 tonnes of mud and trees so engineers can reduce the steepness slopes.
An additional 8,000 tonnes of gravel and concrete is also being brought in to build retaining walls on either side of the track, stretching 650 metres.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said:"To make the most of the closure, we are also bringing forward other infrastructure improvements in the area, as well as essential maintenance at the affected stations.
"This will not only reduce the amount of engineering works in the future but give passengers the reliability benefits much sooner."
These extra works will include:
• Canopy, platform and drainage improvements at Barnehurst, Bexleyheath, Welling, Falconwood, Eltham and Kidbrooke stations.
• Vegetation management and drainage clearance along the Bexleyheath line.
• Signalling and power supply resilience work, including the replacement of electrical equipment to prevent future power and signalling failures.
• Refurbishment of Perry Street Fork Junction near Crayford.
The line reopens on February 24.
