Woolworths on the corner of Commercial Street and Charles Street needs no introduction. It was the go-to place for records, toys and your pick n mix.
This is Boots on Commercial Street, once the busy heart of the shopping centre. Notice the cars and lorries in the picture - it was once possible to drive through Commercial Street and exit at the West Gate Hotel. The area is now pedestrianised.

This is Tesco in Kingsway - located where Wilkinson is now - and was the forerunner to Kingsway Shopping Centre.
In the 1980s Kingsway was developed into a modern shopping centre with an entrance from John Frost Square and an east entrance from Commercial Street. The lower floor was occupied by a cafe and 'In-shops', the upper floor was occupied by shops including Adams baby clothes, Athena posters, Confetti sweets, Woolworths and Peacocks. There was also an entrance to the Dolman Theatre. And who can forget the model of the Transporter Bridge or the glass lift.
