A SECURITY boss has been using his time to document the deserted streets of Kendal during the lockdown for an upcoming film about key workers.

Ian Loxam gathered footage of the town whilst preparing to make a documentary on the lives of people who have been working on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ian, 41, and his partner Nicole Bates filmed various locations in Kendal. The video has attracted more than 5,000 views on social media and praise from the public.

One commenter said: “I have walked those streets so often during the past 30 years.

"It makes me think of my family in Kendal.”

Another member of the Kendal Facebook group said: “Great video of my old town.

"Still a Kendalian at heart.”

The footage includes stunning views of the town and the canal, and captures the haunting beauty of Kendal despite its deserted nature with a soothing soundtrack.

“The idea came from a group on Facebook who put up a lot of pictures of Kendal," said Ian, who works as operations manager for Westmorland Fire and Security.

"I thought it’d be nice to get it out there.

“The response from the group has been amazing.

“Everyone loved the imagery and the feel of the town.

"You’ve never seen the town like this before.

“I was planning to speak to residents on how they are dealing with the lockdown.

"But now I will focus on key workers.

“I wanted some background material for the shots in Kendal, which is lonely and deserted when you walk around.

“I thought it’s worth getting the daily exercise, walking around the town and getting into the nooks and crannies as well, rather than just the town centre.

"It was interesting to wander around.

“I felt that it was worth putting this together and showing how Kendal was just a few weeks ago as it began to open up.

"Also, I wanted to cheer people up in lockdown.”
