AN ADVANCE warning has been sent out to residents following the announcement of road works to take place over the next couple of months in Arborfield.

The road works, taking place across Arborfield Cross Relief Road, along sections of Swallowfield Road, and the A327 Reading Road, are set to start at different times with the first of the repairs starting today, July 13, on the Greensward Lane junction with Swallowfield road.

The developments mean this road will be closed for 24 hours a day, including weekends, until approximately mid-August.

Other scheduled road repairs in the area include a section of A327 Eversley Road, which will be closed overnight (excluding weekends) from July 22-28, and a section of A327 Reading Road from July 29 - August 12, overnight and also excluding weekends.

Other scheduled plans for nearby roads include temporary traffic lights to be placed on a section of A327 Reading Road, in operation during the day from July 20 until the end of July, a section of Baird Road will also have temporary traffic lights installed and will be in place during the day from July 20 on-and-off until August 15, as well as temporary traffic lights being installed on A327 Reading Road by the University of Reading, from August 3 for up to six weeks, for 24 hours a day.

Balfour Beatty, a construction company, also announced they will be working throughout the day on Saturday, July 18, following a working hours extension granted by the Local Planning Authority.

A spokesman for Balfour Beatty said to residents: "Since our last e-notification of July 7, we would like to inform you about a slight change in our schedule of planned works.

"A temporary extension of working hours has been granted by the Local Planning Authority to enable us to carry out necessary works along sections of Swallowfield Road and the A327 Reading Road.

"This will help avoid any delays to the current phase of work.

"Works would be carried out, under Section 192 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990, on Saturday, July 18 between 7.30am and 5.30pm.

The road works for each site vary, from road surfacing works to drainage piping and footway construction.

The spokesman added: "We tend to work on Saturdays, as you may well be aware from our previous correspondence, in exceptional circumstances only.

"We will be doing everything practical to keep any intrusion to a minimum and mitigate the impact as far as possible.

"We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and kindly ask you to bear with us whilst these necessary works are carried out.

"We shall be maintaining social distancing whilst carrying out our works."
