A RECORDING company in Ebbw Vale has been going from strength to strength thanks to a rebranding.

C.O.B.R.A. Music, formerly Steelhouse Productions, is a location recording company specialising in choral, orchestral & brass ensembles.

Despite landing on their feet as a company, Steelhouse Productions felt that their name was becoming a stumbling block.

“With the business being based in Ebbw Vale, we decided on a name, which represented the town’s heritage of steel production, as we thought it would sit well with the more traditional choirs,” said co-founder Dean Richards.

“We quickly realised that this didn’t portray our business very well and says nothing about what we do.

“It was after a competition on Facebook that we decided to use the name C.O.B.R.A. Music, which stands for Choral, Orchestral, Brass & Recording Artistes.

The company was founded in 2017 by Dean Richards of Ebbw Vale and Jordan Day-Williams of Cwmcarn. The idea for the company was born during the pair’s time at the University of South Wales and launched as Steelhouse Productions.

“During a business module at university, we decided to give our ideas the kiss of life and treat the module as a platform to form and start-up a real company,” said Mr Richards.

“Since then we have worked with many ensembles varying from Diverse Cymru’s Oasis Choir, to youth choirs, string quartets and most recently, a large orchestra.”

C.O.B.R.A. Music are currently on the hunt for a permanent base of operations and hope to secure a site within the coming months.
