NEWPORT County boss John Sheridan has admitted the FA Cup could potentially provide a much-needed cash injection for the Exiles.

Newport have progressed to the Promised Land of the third round for the first time in 30-years and could now be set to meet one of the giants of the Premier League.

“We know what the cup can do for a club like us,” Sheridan said after Scott Boden’s header earned the Exiles a 1-0 win at League Two rivals Barnet.

“For the supporters and the players, it gives that excitement because you're in the hat and there's always that belief you might go somewhere.

“We want to go as far as we can and financially it can help the club. The draw takes care of itself.

“Ideally, we want to get through the next round. The lads are excited. It's good for everyone involved with the club. At the end of the day, it will be a football match and whoever we play; we've got to believe we can get through.”

Sheridan is thrilled with County’s improvement that has now seen them power to ten games unbeaten in all competitions.

He explained: “When you’re winning games, it builds a bit of confidence. We're playing well. I don't mind losing games so long as we're doing the right things and playing the way we want to play. Today's performance shows that we are improving as a side.”
