NEWPORT County AFC were heavily beaten at home against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday afternoon in the Final Third Development League, writes Michael Pearlman.

The Exiles, who won 4-3 at Plymouth Argyle last week in a development game, that saw striker Aaron Collins score four times, never looked like hitting those heights against a well-organised Bristol Rovers side.

The Exiles were grateful to Joe Green for keeping them in the contest, staged at Llanwern High School, with Zack Ansah combining with Seth Nana Twumasi for their best first half opportunity.

Goalkeeper Will Puddy denied Collins just after the interval and from then, it was Rovers who finished the contest much the stronger.

The Exiles went a goal behind when Newport’s own Ellis Harrison converted a penalty, before Ryan Broom swept County away by adding a second, with Jamie Lucas adding gloss to the finish for County’s neighbours over the Severn Bridge.

County: J.Green , N.Twumasi, K.Parselle, M.Taylor, S.Barrow, Y.Klukowski, C.Sheppard, J.Young. T.Owen-Evans, A.Collins, Z.Ansah

The youth team will head to Bangor City FC in the quarter-final of the FAW Youth Cup.
