WALES’ crunch Women’s World Cup qualifier against England at Rodney Parade has sold out in just 24 hours.

The attendance will be the highest ever for a Wales women’s home match, with 5,000 fans purchasing tickets for the match in Newport on August 31.

Victory for Jayne Ludlow’s Wales side against Phil Neville’s England will mean they automatically qualify for next year’s World Cup in France.

Wales won their last game 3-0 against Russia at Newport’s Spytty Park in June to set up next month’s mouth-watering encounter with the Lionesses.

Ludlow’s side are currently one point above Neville’s England, who have a game in hand.

If England pick up a point at Rodney Parade, a draw against Kazakhstan on September 4 in their final match would be enough to see them qualify ahead of Wales on goal difference.

Even if favourites England top the group, Wales could still qualify if they are one of the four best runners-up from the seven groups.

“We are really looking forward to the next game being a cup final match for us and having a really big, loud fan base coming to supports us hopefully,” said Wales manager Ludlow.

Rodney Parade, which is home to Newport RFC, the Dragons and Newport County AFC, previously hosted two Euro 2017 qualifiers in September 2016 when Wales women beat Israel 3-0 and then drew 0-0 with Austria.

The previous record attendance for a Wales women’s game on home soil is 3,581 for the meeting with England at Cardiff City Stadium in 2014.

When Wales beat Russia to top the group at Spytty on June 12 there were 1,214 fans in attendance.

Confirming the news of the sell-out, the Football Association of Wales said: “It’s the fastest selling women’s game we’ve ever had.”

Welsh captain Sophie Ingle posted on Twitter: “Last game of our campaign and it’s a sell-out already! Looking forward to seeing you all at Rodney Parade.”

And star player and record appearance holder Jess Fishlock added: “BOOM...SELL OUTTTTTTTT !?!?!? Can’t wait to hear the noise!”
