UNBEATEN light-heavyweight Kody Davies is ready to take the next step in the paid code tonight as he gears up for a first professional fight on foreign soil.

The former amateur star will be out to land an eighth successive victory when he faces American Jerhed Fenderson at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

The TGB Promotions show some 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles also features Davies’ fellow Brits James DeGale and Joe Joyce.

For 24-year-old Davies, his clash with Las Vegas resident Fenderson, 29, comes three weeks after his last outing, a two-round demolition of Latvian journeyman Jevgenijs Andrejevs.

Speaking from the US, where he has been preparing for the bout with trainer Gavin Rees, Davies said: “I’ve been ticking over in the gym and keeping my weight under control.

“It has all been coming down nicely and I’m ready to fight.

“We’ve been to a few gyms and the training has been hard, but I’m feeling good.”

He added: “Not a lot of people get the chance to fight in America, and if they do it is normally later in their careers.

“For me, it is all about doing a job and then see where I go – a couple of things have been put to us but I’m concentrating on this first.

“I’m always looking to put on a show but also to make sure I get the win.”

While Pontllanfraith’s Davies is yet to taste defeat in seven pro fights, opponent Fenderson has lost six of his 10 contests.

He won on debut in July 2016 before suffering five losses in a row, but since then Los Angeles-born Fenderson has won three of his last four.

The encounter, which takes place in the early hours of tomorrow morning UK time, is a first eight-rounder for both boxers, although whether it goes the distance remains to be seen given Davies’ liking for an early finish and Fenderson being stopped four times.
