BARGOED and Bedwas face each other tomorrow (kick-off 2.30pm) with the unenviable record of one win between them in 10 Principality Premiership fixtures so far this season.

With the threat of relegation to the Championship at the end of the campaign, both clubs know they will have to start picking up victories as soon as possible.

Neither will want to extend their stay in the lower reaches of the table – they are currently separated by one point and two places in 13th and 15th.

Bedwas have had the worst start of the two, suffering five straight losses, the latest by just a single point at home to Carmarthen Quins last weekend.

And it hasn’t been much better for Bargoed, whose solitary success came in another Gwent derby against Cross Keys a fortnight ago.

For Bedwas, such a poor start is surprising given they finished last term in seventh and, along with Ebbw Vale, the highest points total of any Gwent club.

This summer saw Stefan Sankala step up to take charge of the first XV with Ian Gardner moving to the role of technical rugby director.

The restructuring process is looking like it is taking some time to bed in at Bridge Field, but with 25 games to go no-one there will be hitting the panic button just yet.

After their trip to Bargoed, Bedwas have two more big matches in Cardiff at home and then Cross Keys at Pandy Park.

A win for Sankala’s men tomorrow would no doubt boost confidence levels ahead of those encounters.
