DAN Barton has pulled out of his Welsh title fight with Geraint Goodridge later this month after falling seriously ill with pneumonia and sepsis.

Unbeaten Newport middleweight Barton posted a picture of himself in intensive care at the Royal Gwent Hospital on social media this week.

In a brief message, St Joseph’s-trained Barton described his health scare as “an experience I cannot explain”.

He added: “Unfortunately, I have been in intensive care for the last six days fighting against pneumonia and sepsis, meaning I have had to withdraw from my Welsh title fight with Geraint Goodridge.”

South Wales Argus:

Goodridge will instead meet Jake Anthony for the vacant Welsh middleweight strap, one of three title fights on the night.

Meanwhile, Barton's St Joes stablemate Andrew Selby has been added to the Sanigar Events bill at the Newport Centre on October 27.
