GWENT'S Lauren Price will return with a bronze medal from the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi after a split-decision defeat in her middleweight semi-final.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games champion lost out 3-2 on the judges' scorecards against reigning European champion Nouchka Fontijin of Holland this afternoon.

Pontypool ABC's Price had guaranteed herself a bronze medal after beating Elzbieta Wojcki of Poland in her quarter-final on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has secured the only medal of the seven-strong Great Britain boxing squad that travelled to the tournament.

At the 2016 event, the British squad returned with two medals, with Nicola Adams winning gold and Savannah Marshall bronze.

GB Boxing's performance director Rob McCracken had said this year's group was "relatively inexperienced" but believed the championships were key in helping him "build a new team" for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
