WALES centre Tyler Morgan will make his Dragons return in Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 clash with Munster in Newport – but the Rodney Parade region are braced to still be without Ross Moriarty.

Morgan has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury in the derby defeat at the Scarlets at the start of the month.

The 23-year-old from Newbridge, who won his fifth cap against Tonga but missed out on the Six Nations squad to Scott Williams, will make a timely return as the Dragons are without Adam Warren for the clash with the Conference A leaders Munster.

The dependable centre suffered a foot sprain in the 49-7 European Challenge Cup defeat to Clermont Auvergne, although initial indications are that it is not a serious injury.

“It’s nice have players of quality that you can bring back into the squad,” said caretaker boss Ceri Jones about Morgan.

“We all know about how explosive Tyler can be on his day – he has that outside break and that little bit of x-factor, we are hoping he can bring that to the game on Saturday.

“Adam has been very good for us, so has Jarryd Sage and we’ve got Jack Dixon as well, so there are players of quality there and we just need to get them on the field and get the right result.”

The Dragons are without their six-strong Wales contingent – captain and lock Cory Hill, hooker Elliot Dee, tighthead Leon Brown, back row forwards Aaron Wainwright and Moriarty and wing/full-back Hallam Amos – as Warren Gatland’s squad start preparations for the Six Nations.

South Wales Argus:

Last week the Wales boss suggested that Moriarty could be released for game time after being sidelined since suffering a concussion against Clermont at the Stade Marcel Michelin on December 15.

There is just a six-day turnaround between the Munster game and the tournament opener in Paris and the Dragons are braced to be without the Lions tourist.

“We haven’t heard anything as of yet,” said Jones. “We’d certainly want Ross Moriarty in our side but we are carrying on as we would without him.

“We are prepping like we are not going to get him, because I have not heard anything from the Wales camp to suggest that we might.”

The Dragons are still without loosehead Ryan Bevington because of a concussion suffered against the Ospreys at the end of last year.

The starting props against Clermont were Brok Harris and Lloyd Fairbrother, who returned from a knee injury and suspension respectively.

“The scrum went really well,” said Jones. “We were dominant in that area against a very good Clermont pack, so that is huge for us.

“It’s nice to have a couple of senior props back, it’s really pleasing when turn up and put the sort of shift in that they did last week.

“Lloyd had been out for three weeks and Brok had been out for a long time, so to come back and play 60 minutes at that sort of level was really impressive.”
