BEDWAS will be looking to take advantage of RGC 1404’s long journey south today and pick up another league win to boost their Principality Premiership survival chances (kick-off 2.30pm).

A massive encounter with fellow relegation candidates Bridgend lies in store for Stefan Sankala’s side next weekend, but Bedwas know they must focus on the visitors from Colwyn Bay first.

It is still incredibly tight in the bottom half of the table, with three of Bedwas, Bridgend, Llanelli, Cross Keys and Bargoed joining Neath in next season’s Championship.

A fifth could also go down if they lose an end-of-term play-off with the winners of the Championship – set to be Pontypool – in mid-May.

Bedwas are currently safe, however, they sit on the same number of points as Bridgend, who have a game in hand, while Llanelli lie just behind the duo.

RGC have no such worries and find themselves comfortably clear of the danger zone in ninth place.

“Obviously RGC are a quality outfit,” said Bedwas head coach Sankala. “Mark Jones has got plenty of resources at his disposal.

“The question we’ll be asking ourselves is, is this a dead rubber for them? They are in the middle of the table and might not be travelling at full strength.

“We’ll be waiting to challenge their mindset after a long journey, but we are aware that on their day they are a quality side.”

He added: “We’ve got an opportunity to pick up more points and carry on building momentum.

“We’re not looking too far ahead, although the reality of it is that the next three games are massive for this club.”

Bedwas welcome back the likes of Nathan Hudd and Joe Scrivens after they sat out the National Cup defeat to Cardiff.

Elsewhere, Bargoed, who appear to be doomed, must beat Neath, while Llanelli go to Aberavon. Bridgend lost 39-30 at Cardiff last night.
