Wales boss Jayne Ludlow certain that the goals will flow

A 0-0 draw at Newport's Rodney Parade means Wales have played more than 10 hours of football without scoring, a run stretching back to last June.

“I am not concerned about the lack of goals, concern doesn't come into it,” Ludlow said. “I would be concerned if we weren't creating chances.

“I do hope it will change before August and I am sure that it will."

Wales open their Euro 2021 qualifying campaign away to the Faroe Islands on August 29.

Their first home qualifier is against Northern Ireland five days later on September 3.

"We created some really good goalscoring opportunities and defended really well," Ludlow said of her team's performance against the Czechs.

"We were really pleased with the first 45 minutes performance.

"But we lost our way for a 20-minute spell in the second half and there are definitely areas we can tighten up on.

"They highlighted some weaknesses we will have to change."

Full-back Loren Dykes (above) was made captain for the night as she became the second Wales player after Jess Fishlock to win 100 caps.

"Loren did everything she needed to do," Ludlow said. "I am really pleased for her with her performance.

“Any player that amasses that number of caps is obviously somebody that we’re really proud of and somebody that we really value.”

Regular captain Sophie Ingle played despite the recent death of her father with the team wearing black armbands during the match.

“From a performance point of view, Sophie was the rock that she always is,” said Ludlow.

“I guess everybody reacts very differently when things happen in their private life, but what I can say is that I’m very proud of how well she’s done through the week.

“The girls have surrounded her with the support that she’s needed and she’s appreciative of that.

“Obviously for her it’s a long-term process that she needs to go through now, but she wanted to commit to this camp and for her to perform in the way she has we’re really pleased and really proud of her.”

Ludlow was also delighted to see a record attendance for a women’s friendly in Wales with 2,168 fans at Rodney Parade.

“It’s pleasing,” said the former Arsenal star. “When you reflect on where we were two or three years ago, prior to the last campaign, it’s amazing.

“I take it in when I’m standing there watching the girls warming up just before kick-off and you see the crowd that’s facing you.

“It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to come back home – to try to change the thought-process on women’s football.

“People are thankfully acknowledging who these players are now and coming out to support them, so I’m really pleased.

“For us it’s about inspiring the next generation and hopefully there’s a couple of youngsters who’ve gone home wanting to be the next Loren [Dykes], Sophie [Ingle] or Jess [Fishlock].”
