JASON Tovey says he couldn't have gone out on a better way than kicking the Dragons to glory at Principality Stadium, even if he wishes he didn't have to leave again.

The fly-half's third – and final? – spell at Rodney Parade is over after the region decided not to offer a new contract.

Tovey made his Dragons debut in 2008 and racked up 1,009 points, more than any other player, in 178 appearances.

The last of those was at Judgement Day when his last-gasp conversion of Matthew Screech's try secured a 34-32 win against the Scarlets.

South Wales Argus:

The 30-year-old from Risca is now mulling over what to do next with other clubs, inside and outside Wales, getting in contact with the playmaker.

Tovey said: "The last week or so I have had a couple of offers – that kick did me the world of good!

"I am still undecided about what I am going to do, I would have loved to stay but the Dragons have their mind set on other things.

"Hopefully over the next few weeks I will be able to decide where I am going but I'd like to stay in professional rugby."

South Wales Argus:

Tovey signed for hometown club Cross Keys last summer after being released from Edinburgh.

He initially returned to the Dragons on permit initially before being given a permanent deal in January.

Tovey made 15 appearances and it wasn't just the Scarlets that he helped down – in December he was a late match-winner against the Ospreys to end a four-year derby drought.

"I needed that time at Cross Keys to start again because I wasn't really enjoying rugby at the time," said the left-footer.

"I hadn't played in the last few months at Edinburgh and Keys helped me to get back out there and have fun, which helped me get back to the Dragons.

"Some days it went well, others didn't but I guess that is the way at the Dragons! I didn't think I could top that kick against the Ospreys but beating the Scarlets at Principality Stadium for a first Judgement Day win, I couldn't have gone out in a better way.

"I am proud of that moment and hopefully that will give the boys leading into pre-season and next year.

"Never say never, there could be a fourth time! But the time is right to move away and finish my career somewhere else."

South Wales Argus:

Tovey was re-signed because the Dragons had injuries at 10 combined with Josh Lewis suffering a loss of confidence.

The experienced fly-half is happy to have played his part in helping Lewis come out of the other end, joining forces with the 27-year-old from Aberdare for the second half of the campaign.

"I knew my role," said Tovey. "Josh was slowly getting back into form and in the last four months he took the season by storm.

"I'm at the stage of my career now to realise what my role is and I was happy with coming off the bench to try and close games out.

"Against the Ospreys and Scarlets that worked, against Cardiff Blues unfortunately we just lost at the end.

"I was happy with that but the Dragons want to push for bigger things.

"They have had a lot of lows for quite a few years, so I wish them all the best and hope everything goes well and we see them climbing that table."
