FORMER heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno was a huge hit at a special Newbridge RFC dinner.

Bruno, who won the WBC title in 1995, spoke with great modesty before a crowd at the packed rugby club.

The 55-year-old spoke candidly to the 150 guests about his triumphs, including that famous win against Oliver McCall, and his struggles with mental health.

Bruno answered questions posed by former Wales hooker Nigel Meek for almost an hour at the event and posed for pictures with the audience.

Newbridge RFC commercial manager Paul Rogers said: "Frank Bruno is one of the nicest, most humble guys I have met.

"It was a pleasure to host a boxing legend such as Frank in the club. A memorable night was certainly had by all."

The next event at Newbridge is a 'World Cup Warm-up' with Jonathan 'Jiffy' Davies on Friday, September 13.
