PONTYPOOL have signed prop Zenon Szwagrzak and centre/full-back Amosa Nove from Monmouth.

The duo will bolster Pooler's squad ahead of their bid for a fourth Specsavers National Championship crown on a spin, and promotion to the Principality Premiership.

Tighthead Szwagrzak was Monmouth's captain for the last two seasons and the 28-year-old will tussle with Scott Evans and Craig Price for the 3 jersey.

"I am really looking forward to joining a club as prestigious as Pontypool. Their history and pedigree when it comes to front-row play speaks for itself," he said.

"The ambition is clearly there to keep moving the club forward and to be successful in the future. I'm really looking forward to staring pre-season training and adding as much as I can to the team.

"The chance to work with the club's coaching staff was a real pull for me. The experience and knowhow of Leighton (Jones, head coach) is hopefully something that I will benefit from and I look forward to testing myself in such a professional environment."

Nove, 24, spent three years with Monmouth and won the District A player of the year honour in his first campaign.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of playing for a club the size of Pontypool and I cannot wait to join up with my new team-mates and hopefully impressing the coaching staff," he said.

"I like to play a fast, free-flowing style of rugby and I hope to be able to play a part as the club targets promotion again this season."

Jones is relishing the chance to work with the duo to see if they can make the step up to Championship level.

The former hooker said: "They both helped Monmouth RFC achieve back-to-back promotions and are used to playing in a successful, high-pressure environment.

"Zenon is an exciting prospect who I'm really looking forward to working with and and at 28 he is entering his prime as a tighthead prop.

"Amosa has also proved his class at Monmouth and will be an exciting addition to our backs division."
