THE Dragons XV will lock horns with the man that kicked the Rodney Parade region to Judgement Day glory when they face Cardiff Blues A on Saturday (kick-off 3.30pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

Jason Tovey, the Dragons' record points scorer, will be on the bench for the Celtic Cup clash at the Arms Park as part of a strong home squad.

The 30-year-old from Risca returned for a second Blues stint at the end of last season, with the final contribution of his third spell as a Dragon being to kick the match-winning conversion against the Scarlets at Principality Stadium.

South Wales Argus:

Tovey will back up Dan Fish while the Blues also include flanker Will Boyde among the replacements after his summer move from the Scarlets.

Four Wales internationals – prop Scott Andrews, lock Rory Thornton, back row forward Seb Davies and full-back Matthew Morgan – are also on the bench.

"We have taken the opportunity to blend youth and experience for this Celtic Cup Clash," said head coach John Mulvihill.

"Eleven players out of the starting fifteen had limited or no game time in the previous season and this game gives them an opportunity to showcase their talents under pressure.

"We have rewarded their hard work and consistency in training this pre-season with a start against a very good Dragons outfit.

"The Dragons played some really good attacking rugby against Munster last week and we see this game as a real challenge for us."

The Blues A lost 47-28 to Leinster in Cardiff on opening weekend and were downed 32-5 by Ulster last week.

The Dragons make the short trip in fine spirits after following up their narrow loss at Connacht by thrashing Munster with a six-try performance in Newport.
