CWMBRAN’S Kyron Duke claimed a bronze medal in the F41 shot put at the World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai.
The Welshman threw a best effort of 13.82m, but the gold went to Uzbekistan’s Bobirjon Omonov with a new championship record of 14.03m. Germany’s Niko Kappel took silver.
Back in June, Duke, 27, threw a new world record of 14.19m in Leverkusen, making him favourite for the gold in Dubai.
He said: “When new people come in and throw big distances, it affects you.
“I’m going to go back to the drawing board and learn from it. I still have my world record.
“I can’t be unhappy, but I still want more.”
Duke, 26, has never won a gold medal at a major championship, with a collection of world and European silvers and bronzes across shot put and javelin.
