FORMER Dragons back Hallam Amos is set to miss the start of the Six Nations because of an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old from Monmouthshire, who headed for Cardiff Blues from Rodney Parade last summer, suffered an injury blow in training ahead of the Arms Park side’s European Challenge Cup loss at Leicester.

The Blues say that the wing/full-back will be available for the Guinness PRO14 match against Connacht in mid-February but he will not feature against Calvisano this weekend.

South Wales Argus:

Amos could still be named in Wayne Pivac’s squad for the Six Nations, which is revealed at 11am, but the 21-times capped speedster, who featured against Uruguay and New Zealand at the World Cup, is unlikely to make the start of the competition.

Wales start against Italy in Cardiff before travelling to Ireland and are blessed with options in the back three.

Leigh Halfpenny has been in fine form for the Scarlets to put the pressure on the established trio of Liam Williams, George North and Josh Adams.

Johnny McNicholl started against the Barbarians in November and uncapped Dragons wing Ashton Hewitt was also in that squad.

Gloucester teenager Louis Rees-Zammit, from Cardiff, has been tipped for selection after catching the eye at Kingsholm.

Pivac is mulling over his midfield options in the absence of Jonathan Davies, Willis Halaholo and Owen Watkin.

Meanwhile, Blues backs Matthew Morgan and Harri Millard face fitness battles to play again this season after suffering serious injuries in the defeat at Leicester.

Full-back Morgan suffered a “traumatic ankle injury” and will undergo surgery today.

The 27-year-old will be out for between four and six months while the lay-off will be similar for promising centre Millard, 23, who suffered a dislocated shoulder and will see a specialist this week.
